4 October: World Animal Day

On October 4, 2025, the world celebrated World Animal Day, established in 1931 at the International Congress of Nature Protection Supporters in Florence. This day aims to raise awareness about animal rights and promote their welfare worldwide. The holiday is observed on the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and ecology. In 2025, events included campaigns to protect endangered species, initiatives against animal cruelty, and educational programs in zoos and nature reserves. Special attention was given to the conservation of large mammals such as elephants and sea lions, which face threats from climate change and human activities.
